In 1986, American pop singer Cyndi Lauper was following up her smash 1983 debut album She’s So Unusual, which catapulted her into worldwide pop superstardom. Her second album needed to have another massive hit if she wanted to establish herself as more than a one-album wonder. She got exactly that in True Colors,” a song written by the songwriting team of Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly which became the title track to Cyndi Lauper’s sophomore effort. Originally submitted by Steinberg and Kelly to Canadian singer Anne Murray, the song ended up making it to Cyndi Lauper who worked with producer Lennie Petze to retool it into a pop anthem. The song was released as a single on August 28 1986 and became a major hit, spending two weeks at the Number 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also became closely associated with the LGBT community for its lyrics about being true to oneself.

Wow, this cover singer sounds a lot like Cindy - awesome! It helps when the singer matches well to the cover track so it's easier to follow.
