Sometimes it’s good to put a new coat of paint on a classic. Neon Moon is a song by American country music duo Brooks & Dunn. It was first released in February of 1992, becoming a Number 1 single on the country charts. The song’s lyrics tell the story of a man who spends his time drowning his sorrows in alcohol and lamenting their separation from their significant other. Neon Moon was then re-recorded by Brooks & Dunn in 2019, featuring American country-pop performer Kacey Musgraves. This new version was part of the duo’s album Reboot, a project consisting of re-recorded versions of various songs from Brooks & Dunn’s career in collaboration with other country music artists. Kacey Musgraves’s performance brings a new level of vulnerability to the song, and the updated production by Dann Huff serves to plant these songs firmly in the contemporary country music landscape.
