Bonnie Raitt lays it all on the line in this sumptuous ode to the booty call ("Yeah baby, I've been drinking / And I shouldn't come by I know / But I found myself in trouble darling / And I had no place else to go) from 1973. The blues-minded US singer-songwriter, guitarist and activist – who has an eye-popping 10 Grammy Awards to her name – featured "Guilty" on her third studio album Takin' My Time, which traversed genres and styles and consisted of cover songs, with reimaginings of Jackson Browne, Randy Newman, Calypso Rose and more. Written by Randy Newman and released by Bonnie Raitt in 1973, "Guilty" is unashamedly frank in its portrayal of a self-deprecating and self-destructive lover on an emotional path to nowhere: "Got some whiskey from a bar man / Got some cocaine from a friend / I just had to keep on moving / Till I was back in your arms again."
