A year after Bill Haley & His Comets fired off the megahit that was "Rock Around the Clock" – featuring Bill Haley (vocal/rhythm guitar), Franny Beecher (lead guitar), Billy Williamson (steel guitar) and others – they launched another rock 'n' roll juggernaut in the form of "Mambo Rock." Written by James Myers, Bix Reichner and Mildred Phillips, and released in February 1955, "Mambo Rock" championed the Cuban music of its namesake and was featured on the group's third album, Rock Around the Clock (1955). This LP was their first to hit the Billboard charts and was one of four singles released by the group that had made their way into Cash Box magazine's top 50 songs, with "Dim, Dim the Lights, (I Want Some Atmosphere)," "Birth of the Boogie," and "Shake, Rattle and Roll" comprising the others. Bill Haley and His Comets were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987.
