"Renegade" is a song by Big Red Machine, a folk duo comprised of Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon. The song features vocals by Taylor Swift. Dessner is a founding member, producer, and songwriter of the band The National and Vernon is the founder and singer/songwriter of Bon Iver. The two met on Myspace while collaborating on a song idea. During the Covid pandemic, Dessner co-wrote and co-produced two albums for Taylor Swift, Folklore, and Evermore. Folklore won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2021. "Renegade" was a song written during that period but both Dessner and Swift thought it was better suited for Big Red Machine. Swift is backed by Vernon's harmonies over a pop-folk track.
