"Poison" is the debut single from American vocal group Bell Biv DeVoe. It was released as part of Bell Biv DeVoe's 1990 debut album of the same name. The track was penned and produced by Elliot Straite, aka Dr. Freeze, who initially intended to include it in his own album. However, the raw and poignant lyrics, created from a personal love letter to his ex-girlfriend, immediately resonated with the members of Bell Biv DeVoe, and "Poison" found its home in their debut album's tracklist. Its lyrics presents a cautionary tale about deceitful love, delivering a stern warning about the dangers of a charming exterior; it's an anthem of mistrust and skepticism, wrapped in an irresistible dance beat and catchy melodies. Musically, "Poison" exemplifies New Jack Swing, combining the smoothness of R&B with the punchy beats of hip-hop, even incorporating elements inspired by German electronic group Kraftwerk and Latin musicians Tito Puente and Mongo Santamaria. The song was a commercial success, peaking at Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for four weeks, and at Number 1 on the Hot Black Singles chart for two weeks. It was also a staple of MTV and mainstream radio during the summer of 1990, eventually becoming one of the most successful singles of the year.

Although the quality of the instruments is very cliche "you know this is karaoke" styled, it stays true to the original as best as possible, and still holds up very, very well. Layering the karaoke tracks with an AI vocal removed version of the song makes things perfect. Definitely a website to come back to.
