Everyman entertainer Barry Manilow had already tasted success on three consecutive hit albums—1973's eponymous debut, 1974's Barry Manilow II, and 1975's Tryin' to Get the Feeling—when he dropped his fourth studio LP, This One's For You. Having amassed an adoring fanbase during the 1970s who were enamoured by his soaring balladry and approachable demeanour, he penned 1976 meditation "All the Time" as an intimate reflection on his newfound fame. "All the time I thought, that I was wrong / Wanting to be me, but needing to belong / If I had just believed in all I had / If someone would have said, you're not so bad," he croons. Released in 1976 at the height of his march to chart dominance, "All the Time" became a celebratory outsider anthem about acceptance. Meanwhile, This One's For You, which also spawned the hit singles "Weekend In New England" and "Looks Like We Made It," took Barry Manilow to the number six spot on the Billboard Top LPs chart in August 1977.
