It would be hard to find someone who wouldn’t sing along with the opening line of the smash Backstreet Boys hit “I Want It That Way,” one of the most recognizable song openings of all time. The song was first released in 1999 as the lead single to the boy band’s third studio album Millennium and deals with the subject of a relationship undergoing turmoil. The song was written by pop powerhouse Max Martin in collaboration with Andreas Carlsson, and produced by Max Martin and Kristian Lundin. Aided by the iconic music video, featuring the Backstreet Boys clad in all-white outfits while performing at an airport, the song shot up to Number 1 on the charts in over 25 countries. In the United States, the song peaked at Number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for eight non-consecutive weeks. “I Want It That Way” earned three Grammy nominations at the 42nd Grammy Awards. In 2019, the Backstreet Boys released a new version of the song titled “I Want It That Way: Reimagined.”
