"Seems as though I’ve lived my life on the bad side of the moon / Just stir your dregs and sitting still, without a rustic spoon," declares Myles Goodwyn at the outset of this mysterious sci-fi tumble into early 1970s psych-rock. Canadian rockers April Wine formed in Nova Scotia in 1969, with singer-guitarist-songwriter Myles Goodwyn steering the band to stardom up until his death in 2023. "Bad Side of the Moon" was originally written by the powerhouse duo of Elton John and Bernie Taupin—whose love of sci-fi allegedly informed the track's content—and covered by April Wine for their second studio album On Record. This 1972 LP ended up being the one that helped April Wine break through to the mainstream, peaking at number 35 on Canada's Top Albums/CDs (RPM) chart and generating a hit in their cover of Hot Chocolate's "You Could Have Been a Lady," which cracked the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 and became a jewel in their back catalogue.
