Written by Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Roger Taylor, Andy Taylor, and James Bates, the song served as a stop-gap release between the Top 10 entry "Girls on Film" and their upcoming second studio album, Rio. Released on November 16, 1981, the original single featured a faster tempo and disco strings that would later be removed in the slowed-down album version, which favored a more synthpop-based sound. "My Own Way" reached Number 14 on the British Singles Chart, becoming Duran Duran's third Top 20 single in the United Kingdom.
