"Thunderbird" is a song popularized by American blues rock band ZZ Top, included in their 1975 hybrid album, Fandango!, which combined live recordings with original studio material. The version on the LP was recorded on April 12, 1974, during one of the band's live shows. As the first track on Fandango!, "Thunderbird" sets the tone for the rest of the album, introducing ZZ Top's electrifying amalgamation of blues, boogie, and Southern rock to a cheering audience. Though the track was credited to the trio, it was originally written and recorded in the early 1960s by the Texas rock and roll act the Nightcaps, who would many years later sue ZZ Top for copyright infringement. Much to their dismay, the authorities dismissed the lawsuit since ZZ Top registered a copyright on the song in 1975. In 2022, "Thunderbird" was featured in the album RAW, a compilation that also served as the official soundtrack to their 2019 documentary, That Little Ol' Band from Texas.
