"The Greatest Love of All" is a song by American singer and actress Whitney Houston, included in her 1985 eponymous studio debut. The song was written in 1976 by composer Michael Masser and lyricist Linda Creed for the soundtrack of the feature film The Greatest, based on the life of heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali. Originally recorded by George Benson, the track was later released as a single, reaching Number 2 on the Billboard R&B chart and becoming one of the singer's biggest hits. A few years later, a young artist named Whitney Houston recorded the song as "Greatest Love of All" for her self-titled full-length, propelling the track's popularity to new heights. "Greatest Love of All" was first released as a B-side to "You Give Good Love" and then as the seventh single from her debut album in 1986. It spent three weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in Canada and Australia. A powerful rendition of the song titled "Greatest Love of All (Live)" can be found on the 2014 DVD Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances.
