Composed by Tom Wells, with lyrics written by Hugh Wilson, and orchestral arrangements from Jim Ellis, Steve Carlisle provided the voice for the iconic theme tune to "WKRP in Cincinnati," a hit US comedy television series first broadcast in 1978 on the CBS network about the fictional smalltown radio station of the same name. Inspired by the real-life experiences of show creator Hugh Wilson, WKRP in Cincinnati took a warts-and-all look at the trials and tribulations of the station and ran until 1982. A full-length version of the show’s soft-rock theme tune was released as a single in 1979 and charted at number 65 in 1981 and at number 29 on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1982. A harder rock-led sound made up the show's closing theme. Born in Akron, Ohio, Steve Carlisle found fame with the theme tune and later released a 10-song album called Steve Carlisle sings WKRP in Cincinnati in 1982.
