This 1960s crooner from the late Tony Bennett—who died on 21 July 2023 aged 96—is based on French song “Prière Sans Espoir,” composed by Charles Danvers, with English lyrics later set by Carl Sigman. The song was first released in January 1957 by Percy Faith, who went to number 63 with his trend-setting version. However, Tony Bennett flew to the moon and back in 1961, thanks to his showstopping vocals and sweeping strings that elevated this superlative-packed romancer to the number 35 spot on the UK Singles Chart. "Till" really comes into its own in the chorus: "'Til the moon deserts the sky / 'Til the all the seas run dry / 'Til then I'll worship you / 'Til the tropic sun turns cold / 'Til this young world grows old / My darling, I'll adore you." Tony Bennett included this sonic love letter on his 1960 album To My Wonderful One, which was released on Columbia as CL 1429 and also included versions of timeless standards like "April in Paris" and "Autumn Leaves."
