"Lowlife" was the lead single from Canadian hard rockers Theory of a Deadman's fourth studio LP, The Truth Is... (2011). Released three years after their breakthrough album Scars & Souvenirs (2008), The Truth Is... quickly outperformed its predecessor by reaching Number 2 on the Canadian pop charts and Number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100. This success was largely thanks to the popularity of the single "Lowlife," which was sent to radio on May 17, 2011. Written by Tyler Connolly, Dave Brenner, Dean Back, and Joey Dandeneau, album opener "Lowlife" is an energetic rock number about enjoying living life as an outcast. The track also featured creative input by Tyler Connolly's wife, actress Krsy Fox. Shortly after its commercial release, "Lowlife" went to Number 1 on the US Mainstream Rock chart and Number 55 on the Canadian Hot 100. It was also certified Gold in both the United States and their native Canada.
