"Sleigh Ride" is an orchestral piece of music by American composer Leroy Anderson. Initially written during a heatwave in 1946, it is one of the most memorable holiday songs in popular culture, even though its lyrics don't make any direct reference to Christmas. Leroy Anderson finished "Sleigh Ride" in 1948 and allusive winter lyrics were added by Mitchell Parish two years later. An orchestral version by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra was released in 1949, instantly becoming both a hit single and one of the orchestra's signature songs. In the years that followed, the all-female vocal group The Ronettes included "Sleigh Ride" in their Christmas album A Christmas Gift for You, featuring producer Phil Spector's trademark "Wall of Sound" technique. Shortly after its release, The Ronettes' version entered the US Holiday 100 at Number 10 and has been consistently charting yearly since its release in 1963, reaching a new peak at Number 21 in 2020.
