With more than a nudge and a wink, the Rolling Stones revved up the metaphor of a car to symbolize sexual stamina ("I've been running hot / You got me ticking, going to blow my top / If you start me up / If you start me up, I'll never stop / Never stop, never stop, never stop") on their driving 1981 hit "Start Me Up." Featured on the rock titans' 1981 album Tattoo You, which is made up of studio outtakes recorded during the 1970s (where it was released as the album's lead single), "Start Me Up" rose to the Top of the Australian Kent Music Report, hit Number 2 in Canada and on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached Number 7 on the UK Singles Chart. The rock guzzler may have taken more than a few wrong turns along the road to success (with "Start Me Up" famously beginning life as a reggae-rock track "Never Stop") but the end result yielded one of the Rolling Stone's most enduring classics.
