US pop-rock duo the Rembrandts had already bagged a Top 20 single with "Just the Way It Is, Baby" – featured on their debut 1990 self-titled effort – and were given a brief taste of Hollywood when their 1992 track "Rollin' Down the Hill" was used in the movie Dumb and Dumber. However, when Warner Bros. Television came knocking with a TV theme tune proposal, the lives of the Rembrandts changed forever. After R.E.M. turned down the request to use their song "Shiny Happy People" in Friends, The Rembrandts – aka Danny Wilde and Phil Solem – were asked to step in and record "I'll Be There for You," which had been written by David Crane, Marta Kauffman, Michael Skloff and Allee Willis. Following the final episode of Friends in 2004, the hit show returned for a reunion special in 2021 and "I'll Be There for you" – with its thrilling guitar riff and handclaps – wriggled its way back into the spotlight once again.

It would be nice to have a high female key. Kids can't sing this well even if it's raised a step.
