London-originating power-poppers The Outfield were huge in America but never quite hit the same highs on home turf. When they made their debut with the William Wittman-produced album Play Deep, in 1985, they bagged a handful of hit US singles, including "Your Love", which creeped up to Number 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1986 and became the band's signature tune; a punchy blast of superchanged pop-rock about a one-night stand that excels in the chorus. The band went on to issue another six albums during the '90s and '00s, including 2004's Any Time Now with founding drummer Alan Jackman – who had quit the band following the release of 1989 album Voices of Babylon – who later returned to record the group's final album in 2011, Replay. John Spinks – who provided the guitar riffs on "Your Love" – died from liver cancer on July 9, 2014 aged 60. On October 19, 2020, singer Tony Lewis died at his home near London.
