It takes a certain degree of bravery to cover a song as intimately associated with its performer as Roberta Flack’s take on Killing Me Softly With His Song.” During the 1990s, hip-hop group The Fugees happened to be one of the boldest acts around, and their spin on the 1972 classic became a career-defining hit for them as well. And though Roberta Flack’s version is one of the most memorable, it wasn’t actually the first; Killing Me Softly With His Song was originally written by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel along with singer-songwriter Lori Lieberman. The Fugees version (retitled Killing Me Softly") brings the song to the world of hip-hop, with Lauryn Hill singing lead vocals as her bandmate Wyclef Jean interjects occasionally. This version, self-produced by The Fugees, was released as part of their 1996 album The Score. It was also released as a promotional single for the album, peaking at Number 20 on the US Adult Top 40, Number 1 on the US Mainstream Top 40, and Number 2 on the US Radio Songs chart.

Backing vocals are not great. And doesn't have and soul. kind of disjointed

The background could be more soulful since this is an R & B piece.
