An elemental fireball in The Doors' lauded back catalogue, "Light My Fire" is anchored by the distinctive sound of Ray Manzarek's Vox Continental combo organ and the psychedelic guitar wig-outs of guitarist Robby Krieger, who rocks out with an expansive solo that seems to go on for days. Pulled along by Jim Morrison's commanding voice, "Light My Fire" was effectively the launchpad for The Doors' glittering career as rock deities. The song was edited to a much shorter version and packaged as a single for radio that clocked in at just 2m52 but this album version is the real deal, powered by nearly seven minutes of full-blooded, sexed-up rock 'n' roll rocket fuel. Recorded in 1966 and released as a single in 1967, "Light My Fire" enjoyed a delayed burst of chart success the following year thanks to José Feliciano's raved-about cover version. The track was featured on The Doors' seminal self-titled LP of 1967.
