The Blues Brothers made Ray-Ban Wayfarers into a style icon following the 1980 movie The Blues Brothers; the US musical comedy film directed by John Landis and starring John Belushi as "Joliet" Jake Blues and Dan Aykroyd as his brother Elwood. The characters were in fact conceived from a sketch on NBC variety series Saturday Night Live, with the pair first showing what they were made of on Saturday Night Live’s 10th episode, which aired on January 17, 1976. However, rather than coming suited and booted as they appear in the film, the duo came dressed in giant bee costumes. Originally written and recorded as a swamp blues song by Slim Harpo in 1957 – and later receiving a Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 2008 – "I'm a King Bee" was performed by John Belushi on SNL that night with bandleader Howard Shore dressed as a beekeeper and guest host Buck Henry introducing them as Howard Shore and his All-Bee Band, building a buzz for what would later become a movie classic.
