One of The B-52's best-loved and most recognisable bops, the kitschy, catchy "Love Shack" spawned a cultural phenomenon and became a hit all over the world when it was released in 1989. The US band—aka singer/keyboardist Kate Pierson, singer Cindy Wilson, singer Fred Schneider and guitarist Keith Strickland (previously the drummer)—included the track on Cosmic Thing, (which was partly produced by none other than Nile Rodgers), their fifth studio album and their first LP following the death of founding guitarist Ricky Wilson, who died from complications related to AIDS in 1985. All four remaining band members are credited as writers of "Love Shack," which was thought to be inspired by a cabin with a tin roof near the group's hometown of Athens, Georgia. The song gave The B-52's their first rung on the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 ladder and remains a joyous all-ages favourite that celebrates life.
