"It's Not My Cross to Bear" is a song from The Allman Brothers Band's 1969 self-titled studio debut. Written by singer and guitarist Gregg Allman about an ex-girlfriend, the song has strong blues influences but does not follow the typical eight-bar or twelve-bar blues chord progressions. "Blackhearted Woman," the following track on the album, is also said to have been inspired by the same relationship. Additionally, "It's Not My Cross to Bear" has the peculiarity of being one of the first creative contributions Gregg Allman made to the group.
