As Talking Heads' 1985 masterpiece and their best commercial effort (which sold two million copies in the US) Little Creatures is quite rightly voted among the best albums of the '80s, spawning two enduring hits in "Road To Nowhere" and "And She Was" while proving that the art-rock luminaries, who were on their sixth album at the time, had no plans to retire just yet. The song demonstrates the art-rockers sometimes surreal, childlike and unusual choice of subject-matter, and this time they turned to babies and parenthood as lyrical fodder for, well, staying up late. "Baby, baby, please let me hold him / I wanna make him stay up all night / Sister, sister, he's just a plaything / We wanna make him stay up all night / Yeah, we do", sing the band, possibly poking fun at parenting, where they can surely be forgiven for keeping the "baby up all night" "with the television on". Rock and roll indeed.
