After forming in Chicago in 1978, Survivor took over the charts with their hard-boiled, gym-loving Rocky-approved single "Eye of the Tiger" (1982) and sunk their teeth into a double-platinum-certified hit. Their glory continued throughout much of the '80s, with singles like "Burning Heart," "The Search Is Over," and "High on You" all hitting the top 10 in the US. "Is This Love" was among these top 10 triumphs. Released in 1986, the song melded the shimmering synthesized piano – which was a hallmark of the era – of keyboardist Jim Peterik with outbreaks of electric guitar from guitarist Frankie Sullivan. With its invigorating key change and suggestive lyrics ("I've tread those mean streets / Blind alleys where the currency of love changes hands / All touch, no feeling / Just another one night stand"), the song proved a recipe for success, entering the Hot 100 in January 1987.
