"Winter Time" sounds a little bit like The Byrds, a little bit like "California Dreamin'", and a little bit like Blue Öyster Cult, all rolled into a unique sounding Steve Miller Band sandwich; one of their specials, in fact. This wistful portrait of the titular season ("When all the leaves are brown / And the wind blows (So chill) / And the birds have all flown for the summer") was the third track on Steve Miller Band's career-defining tenth studio album Book of Dreams, which became one of the group's biggest triumphs. The LP yielded three hits in "Jet Airliner" (number  8)—originally composed by Paul Pena in 1973 and taken on by the Steve Miller Band in 1977—"Jungle Love"—(number 23) which was written by trusted Steve Miller Band bassist Lonnie Turner and San Franciscan Greg Douglass and featured in the opening credits of the 8th season of the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond)—and "Swingtown" (number 17).
