"Tainted Love / Where Did Our Love Go" is a medley by Soft Cell that's double the trouble; two of the group's best-known songs melded together. A radical makeover of a Northern soul tune from the 1960s (composed by Ed Cobb and first recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964), "Tainted Love" took the synth-pop duo's career to stratospheric heights. Released as a single in 1981, "Tainted Love" soared to number one on the UK Singles Chart—largely propelled by the group's era-defining performance on the BBC's Top of the Pops chart show. "Tainted Love" was crowned among the best-selling singles of 1981 in the UK, just pipped to the post by "Don't You Want Me" by The Human League. This medley splices the tune with a meandering version of the Holland-Dozier-Holland-produced "Where Did Our Love Go," first popularised by The Supremes for the Motown label in 1964 who climbed all the way to number one with the track.
