One of the most successful crossover country acts in recent history, singer Ronnie Milsap got his big break in the early 1970s with singles like "I Hate You," "Pure Love," and the Kris Kristofferson-penned "Please Don't Tell Me How the Story Ends." After scoring seven Number 1 singles in a row between 1976 and 1978 (including the 1977 hit "It Was Almost Like a Song") the North Carolina native entered the new decade with a completely revamped sound that mirrored the glossy production values dominating the airwaves in the 1980s. By switching his attention to lush pop ballads, Ronnie Milsap went on to top the country charts with albums like There's No Gettin' Over Me (1981) and Lost in the Fifties Tonight (1985). The latter included the single "Lost in the Fifties Tonight (In the Still of the Night)," a medley of Mike Reid and Troy Seals' "Lost in the Fifties Tonight" and The Five Satins' 1956 hit "In the Still of the Night" that went straight to Number 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.
