Armando Christian Pérez aka multi-hyphenate superstar Pitbull launched himself onto the international Latin pop scene with this poker-hot lead single from his debut album M.I.A.M.I. Dancehall-flavoured heater "Culo," which means "ass" in Spanish and Italian, featured English-language rapping from crunk master Lil Jon and several samples, including the "Coolie Dance" mriddim popularised by Nina Sky's 2004 hit "Move Ya Body," as well as a reference to "Pull Up" by Mr. Vegas, an act for which Pitbull and Lil Jon were later sued by Mr. Vegas. Written by Craig D Love, Pitbull, Cordel Burrell, and Clifford Smith, "Culo" reached number 11 on Billboard's US Hot Rap Tracks while M.I.A.M.I.—which saw cameo appearances from Bun B, Fat Joe, Lil Scrappy and Trick Daddy—performed well on the US Billboard 200 chart, debuting at number 14. The album was predominantly produced by Lil Jon, Jim Jonsin, Diaz Brothers, and DJ Khaled.
