After breaking into the mainstream with her studio debut Can't Take Me Home and gaining major exposure through a feature on Moulin Rouge's "Lady Marmalade" (2000) alongside Christina Aguilera, Mya, and Lil' Kim, American pop singer Pink decided to shy away from market trends and change the course of her burgeoning music career. With that purpose, she recruited former 4 Non Blondes frontwoman Linda Perry to start working on her second full-length, Missundaztood. Decidedly more rock-oriented than her previous effort, the album seamlessly combined influences from blues, metal, hip-hop, and disco into a cohesive collection of songs. Released on October 16, 2001, the Linda Perry-penned lead single "Get the Party Started" was both Pink's first dance hit and the best-selling that year, peaking at Number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and quickly achieving Gold status. A remix featuring rapper Redman and producer Rockwilder titled "Get the Party Started/Sweet Dreams" was made available only in France, where it reached Number 4 on the singles chart.
