The late Flemish popstar Paul Severs was born in Ukkel, Belgium and set out on his musical trajectory in the mid-1960s, first releasing the "Geen wonder dat ik ween" single in 1966 under the name Paul Severs & The Criminals and later making waves with "Catharina" and "Hey Baby" in 1960 and 1970, respectively. On 1970's breakout single "Ik ben verliefd op jou," he channelled classic coiffeured crooners like Roy Orbison and Bobby Darin for a smooth, easy trip through Dutch schlager territory. The track was released as a single with "Geen wonder dat ik ween" on the flipside and helped to catapult Paul Severs's career to stratospheric heights on home soil. The track lit up the charts in Flanders but it also took on new life as a French-language hit by Crazy Horse ("J'ai tant besoin de toi") and as an English remake thanks to the "I'm so in love with you" single by Flemish/British group Octopus.
