Norah Jones poured her velvety voice into this easy-listening soother from 2004. "I was dancin' with my darlin' to the Tennessee Waltz / When an old friend I happened to see / I introduced her to my loved one / And while they were dancin' / My friend stole my sweetheart from me," she sings in the song's luscious opening. "Tennessee Waltz" was originally written by Redd Stewart and Pee Wee King in 1947 and gave the latter a hit in 1948. In 1950, Patti Page achieved substantial commercial success with the song, notching up 10 million copies, while a number of other artists have had a go at recreating this Tennessee favorite over the years, including Otis Redding, who recorded a version of "Tennessee Waltz" featuring Booker T & the MGs on his R&B album, Complete & Unbelievable: The Otis Redding Dictionary of Soul, Manfred Mann in 1966 and a rare covers outing for Leonard Cohen in 1985.
