American folk-pop singer-songwriter Noah Kahan first emerged on the scene in early 2017 with the single "Young Blood." In the years that followed, the Vermont native landed his first charting single through the Julia Michaels duet "Hurt Somebody," the title track from his 2018 debut EP, and put out the studio albums Busyhead (2019) and I Was / I Am (2021). Almost two years after having teased it on social media in 2020, he released the single "Stick Season" (2022), the lead single from his third album of the same name. Written during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, "Stick Season," a Vermont phrase used to describe the transition from fall to winter, is a gentle folk-pop tune that compares this transitional period to having to move on from a past relationship. Shortly after its commercial release, "Stick Season" reached Number 2 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart and Number 12 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. Its parent album, in turn, peaked at Number 14 on the Billboard 200.
