The legendary Nat King Cole and his cashmere-smooth voice embody the festive season just as much as marshmallow-laden hot chocolate, bad TV, and family feuds. "Caroling, Caroling" is peak Christmas and peak Nat King Cole at Christmas; a joy-filled celebration of the holidays that opens with the literal ding dong of bells and the sound of carolers out carolling. "Joyous voices sweet and clear / Sing the sad of heart to cheer," sings Nat King Cole on this highlight from his landmark 1960 Christmas album, The Magic of Christmas. Arranged and conducted by Ralph Carmichael, the LP became the best-selling Christmas album of the 1960s, topping the Billboard's Christmas Albums chart in 1963 where it stuck around for two weeks. Meanwhile, "Caroling, Caroling" scratches the commercial itch of Christmas; the song was written in 1954 by Wilha Hutson and Alfred Burt, initially to accompany a Christmas card.
