Since emerging on the scene in the mid-1990s, New Orleans-based rapper Mystikal became one of the fastest rising stars in Southern hip-hop with releases like Unpredictable (1997) and Ghetto Fabulous (1998) topping the rap charts in the United States. Released on September 26, 2000, his fourth full-length Let's Get Ready became a bonafide crossover hit by reaching Number 1 on both the Billboard 200 and the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. This was largely thanks to the success of singles like "Danger (Been So Long)" and "Shake Ya Ass," a bouncy club anthem that featured production by The Neptunes and uncredited backing vocals by Pharrell Williams. Shortly after its commercial release, "Shake Ya Ass" peaked at Number 3 on the hip-hop charts and quickly became one of Mystikal's signature songs. A clean version with modified lyrics titled "Shake It Fast" was released as the single's B-side and enjoyed great popularity on mainstream radio.
