Morgan Wallen grew up in Tennessee with his hard rock-loving Southern Baptist pastor and contemporary gospel-loving mother who both shaped his musical trajectory. As a result, his music has tended to bridge the gap between smoother, pop-friendly melodies (he also competed in the sixth season of The Voice, originally as a member of Usher's team, but later as a member of Adam Levine's team) and the wild-eyed, hard-drinking bro-country of his contemporaries. Of course, he is partial to a drinking song but he is also consistently tuned into a mellower, more romantic frequency. After making waves with his second studio album, Dangerous: The Double Album, in 2021, he leaned into his softer side for 2022 single "Thought You Should Know," an emotive sonic dedication to his mom Lesli which was co-written with Nicolle Galyon and Miranda Lambert. The single gave him his fourth number one debut on the Hot Country Songs chart.
