Tennessee country star Morgan Wallen kept it real on his straight-talking 2016 debut single "The Way I Talk," revisiting his Southern origins as a way of introducing his persona to the world. On the track, he sings of the 'slow Mississippi roads', and the 'Sunday morning service back home'. "It sounds a little bit like my daddy / It don't cuss around my mama / Got some words you've never heard / 'Less you come from down yonder / The man upstairs gets it / So I ain't tryna fix it / No, I can't hide it / I don't fight it, I just roll with it," goes the chorus. Morgan Wallen didn't break any records with "The Way I Talk," but he set himself up for what became a fruitful career as a country artist, with the track hitting its stride country radio. Co-written by Jessi Alexander, Ben Hayslip, and Chase McGill, "The Way I Talk" served as the lead single from Morgan Wallen's debut studio album If I Know Me (2018).
