Hailing from the gloriously named Dripping Springs, Texas country troupe Midland launched their debut in 2017 with their first full-length, On the Rocks, and went on to win over fans with their catchy, harmony-loaded blend of bearded Southern rock and neo-traditional-meets-country pop. Famed for their three-part harmonies, the band often employs bassist Cameron Duddy on falsetto with guitarist Jess Carson sandwiched between him and lead vocalist Mark Wystrach. Longneck Way to Go is taken from the band's third album, The Last Resort: Greetings From, which was released in 2022 and largely stays faithful to their Grammy-nominated sound for an 11-track stew of country barnstormers and ballads. Carrying on the grand ole tradition of country drinking songs, "Longneck Way to Go" – a high-spirited, '90s-summoning collaboration with fellow country star Jon Pardi – sees the band drown their pain in "heartbreak beers" that "go down fast", lamenting the loneliness while kicking up a party atmosphere, captured in the boisterous music video.
