Written by Metallica’s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, and produced by one of their collaborators, Bob Rock, "Low Man's Lyric" is an emotional rock ballad in the vein of the band's 1991 masterpiece "Nothing Else Matters," which is written from the perspective of a "low man" without a home or a hope. It describes the thoughts of someone who is suffering yet yearns for forgiveness and a fresh start—but he's broken, and can only find solace in heroin ("My eyes seek reality / My fingers seek my veins"). This unflinching portrait of a man on the edge was featured on Metallica's top-selling seventh album Reload, released through Elektra Records in 1997 and certified 3x platinum in the US. It was notable for being Metallica's first album to feature a guest singer (Marianne Faithfull on "The Memory Remains"). A live acoustic version of Low Man’s Lyric was also included on the band's 2010 Six Feet Under EP.

Rocked out this song the other night, with my now 21 year old son in tow, who's been listening to this type of music since he was a wee lad. It was outstanding! Thanks karaoke-version!
