Heartbroken and down on his luck, late outlaw country luminary Merle Haggard has a severe case of the blues. “Life is full of misery / Dreams are like a memory / Bringing back your love that used to be”, he wails, heartbroken and down on his luck on the classic 1970s country of "Blues Stay Away from Me." The song was originally a major hit and the best-known track by brothers Alton and Rabon Delmore aka The Delmore Brothers, and went on to be covered by the likes of Gene Vincent and The Blue Caps, The Louvin Brothers, The Browns, Les Paul and Mary Ford, Doc Watson, The Notting Hillbillies, Marshall Chapman, and The Everly Brothers. Merle Haggard included his interpretation of the heavy-hearted ramble on his 26th studio album A Working Man Can’t Get Nowhere Today (also credited to the Strangers), which debuted in October 1977 and was released by Capitol even though he had recently moved to MCA.
