"Bat Out of Hell" is a song by Meat Loaf. It's the title track from one of the best-selling albums of all time. The song was originally written by Jim Steinman for his 1977 Peter Pan-inspired musical, Neverland. Steinman was influenced by the teenage tragedy love songs of the 60s, like the "Leader of the Pack" and "Tell Laura I Love Her." He set out to write "the most extreme crash song of all time," and he succeeded. "Then I'm dying at the bottom of a pit in the blazing sun /Torn and twisted at the foot of a burning bike." The motorcycle sound effect is producer Todd Rundgren's guitar. The artist was a huge part of the album. Besides producing and playing guitar, he arranged the songs, played keyboards, percussion, sang, and financed the album after learning they couldn't find a label.
The backing track for "Bat Ouf of Hell" is available with background vocals or as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
