“What a Wonderful World” is a song recorded by jazz singer and trumpeter Louis Armstrong. It was written by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss. Although some sources said the song was originally offered to Tony Bennett, Weiss said he specifically wrote it for Armstrong, inspired by the singer’s ability to bring people of different races together. The lyric starts as a celebration of nature and all its colors “I see trees of green, red roses too” and then cleverly switches to celebrate the differences of skin colors, “The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky / Are also on the faces of people going by.” The song was only a marginal hit in the US when it was released in1968. Twenty years later it was used in the Robin Williams film Good Morning, Vietnam and that changed everything. The song was re-released and is now a beloved popular standard.
