Carmelita,” a striking cover of the 1976 country rocker by Warren Zevon, is weirdly charming in a way that fits Linda Ronstadt. Along with the hint of mariachi music, there are the Los Angeles references, from Ensenada and Echo Park (where Warren Zevon lived) to "the Pioneer Chicken stand" on "Alvarado Street", which give the song a golden-baked Californian feel. The interplay of twangy country instrumentation, warm vocals, and hard-hitting lyrics about a man "strung out on heroin" at the end of his tether gives the song a unique sensibility. Linda Ronstadt recorded her interpretation of the track in 1977 for her album Simple Dreams, which also contained a cover of Warren Zevon's "Poor Poor Pitiful Me," helping to boost the career of the future "Werewolves of London" hit-maker. "Camelita" went on to be covered by contemporary punk bands the Copyrights (2010) and FIDLAR (2011).
