Led Zeppelin took it down a notch for this slow-burning Chicago blues jam, "You Shook Me," which was featured on their landmark self-titled debut album of 1969. The iconic blues classic was written by Willie Dixon and J.B. Lenoir, and legendary Muddy Waters was the first artist to record the song (Willie Dixon was his bassist). For Led Zeppelin's electrifying, call-and-response iteration of the tune, which clocks in at over six minutes, band member John Paul Jones fired off solos on the Hammond organ and electric piano, while Jimmy Page showed off his axe-wielding prowess for an otherworldly guitar solo that utilises the reverse echo technique he apparently invented. "You Shook Me" was also recorded by Jeff Beck for his Truth album in 1968 and he reportedly wasn't into the fact that Led Zeppelin had supposedly copied his arrangement. Nevertheless, Led Zeppelin remains one of rock music's most important albums, heralding the arrival of heavy metal with "Communication Breakdown" and inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004.
