Perhaps one of the most famous duets in pop music history, Elton John and Kiki Dee's "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" marked the first time both artists reached the top of the charts in their native UK. Written by Elton John and longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin under their respective pseudonyms Ann Orson and Carte Blanche, the song was heavily influenced by the iconic 1960s Motown duets between Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. Shortly after its commercial release in 1976, "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" topped both the Official UK Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Elton John's sixth Number 1 single in the United States. The English singer would re-record the song once again for his 1994 album Duets, this time featuring guest vocals by American singer and drag queen RuPaul. Produced by disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder, the track's new Hi-NRG version climbed to Number 3 on Billboard's US Dance Club Songs chart.
