Country-pop darling Kelsea Ballerini chronicled the aftermath of her divorce on a surprise-released Valentine's Day EP in February 2023, the follow-up to her fourth studio album Subject to Change (2022). Across six songs, she takes us through the breakup. On EP title track “Rolling Up the Welcome Mat,” she's filing the court papers, on heartbreaker “Just Married,” she's painstakingly falling out of love, and on “Blindsided,” she's just really angry. By the time she gets to "Leave Me Again,” the EP's closing track, she's in a more charitable mood, turning on the softer lighting and picking up the acoustic guitar to deliver her final thoughts for an ode to self-love. "I hope you're spending Christmas with your family / I hope you're writing songs that you love," she begins in the first verse, before ultimately declaring: "I hope I learn to love myself like I loved you then / And I hope I never leave me again."
