John Lennon slipped on his blue suede shoes for this cover of "Slippin' and Slidin'" first immortalised by Little Richard (under the full title "Slippin' and Slidin' (Peepin' and Hidin')") in 1956 and released as the B-side of his second single, "Long Tall Sally." The song tells the tale of a guy who's just about had enough of being taken for a ride. "I been told, baby, you been bold / I won't be your fool no more," he declares. For his 1975 concept album Rock 'N' Roll—which was released just five years before his death—John Lennon looked back to the 1950s and 1960s to re-imagine a cache of rock 'n' roll and R&B classics, including "Be-Bop-A-Lula," "Stand By Me," "Do You Want to Dance?" and "Peggy Sue." The album bore the sonic hallmarks of its namesake—with added shine from horns and saxophones—and cracked the top ten in both the UK and the US. It was also later certified gold in both countries.
