Jimi Hendrix's guitar has a mind, soul, and body of its own on this incendiary, riff-loaded odyssey. Traced back to 1920s Mississippi, Delta blues jam "Catfish Blues" is known by a raft of alternative names – among these "Voodoo Chile", abd "Rollin’ Stone" – and later became the basis for a Muddy Waters' favourite ("Rollin' Stone"). The song is first credited to bluesman Robert Petway in 1941 and it's even believed to have given the Rolling Stones their name. The origin story of "Catfish Blues" is as unwieldy as the song itself, but in the mid-'60s, the legendary Jimi Hendrix took a turn at the wheel and recorded his version of the track. "Catfish Blues" was later included on his 1994 album, Blues, which, as the album title suggests, saw producer Alan Douglas group together a selection of blues-minded songs recorded by Jimi Hendrix, from the red-hot Bleeding Heart and acoustic number Hear My Train A-Comin’ to the fire and the fury of Catfish Blues”.
