"My People" is a song by Australian country musician James Johnston, who first jumped to fame in 2009 by placing third on the seventh season of the reality show Australian Idol. In the years that followed his participation on the show, he traveled throughout country Australia performing in bars and venues, and later made a brief appearance on the local version of the televised talent show The X Factor. However, it wasn't until 2021 that he finally made his debut with the single "Raised Like That," which climbed to the top spot of the ARIA charts and was quickly certified Gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association. After scoring two more chart-toppers with "Small Town" (2021) and "Country Boys" (2022), the singer-songwriter returned in late 2022 with the single "My People," an upbeat country-rock tune that celebrated country living and the carefree spirit of country dwellers throughout the world. "My People" was written by James Johnston with Nashville-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Justin Wantz.
